The history of one of the most famous watch brand A.Lange&Sohne began in the middle of the 19th century in Saxony with a watchmaker J.C.F.Gutkaes. His name was associated with the digital five-minute clock. However, this glory was partially shared with another watchmaker ??“ A. Lange who was a former trainee of Gutkaes.

After passing the traineeship with honor, Lange was working for Gutkaes, and in several years Adolph Lange became a co-owner of the watches enterprise together with Gutkaes. The year of 1841 became revolving in the watch making industry.

Apart from gorgeous five-minute clock, the pocket watch with diamonds was constructed as a gift for Russian Duke. Later on, after numerous self-quests, in December 1845, Adolph Lange decided to establish his own production of watches that would differ from others. Adolph Lange??™s imagination led him to a number of inventions such as absolutely new and bold design and production techniques. Some days before A. Lange??™s death, his sons and their talented father re-organized the established enterprise giving it a new name ??“ A.Lange&Sohne, a brand known all around the world nowadays.

There is no need to say that as German economy was improving with every year, the demand for luxury goods and for status symbols was growing. The expansion of A.Lange&Sohne was a matter-of-course??¦But a sudden start of World War I destroyed the luxury watches market. However, the company targeting at another niche market of marine chronometers has survived in these difficult times proving its high quality and singularity.

After the end of World War I, the grandchildren of Adolph Lange began to reconstruct the company??™s former status. The success of the new era was due to the unique reputation of the pocket watches by Lange.

In 1990, after the unification of Germany, Walter Lange, the great-grandson of Adolph Lange, rebuilt the family business in watch making. This time, innovation served again to bring the victory to the company. In 1994, the improved type watches of the new epoch were presented in Dresden by Walter Lange beginning a new era of world fame and prestige built on so called customized perfection.
